A versatile Long Lens Support Bracket idea (Part 3)

Adding a little versatility, that will allow for back/forth and up/down adjustment,would require a long rail, an LLSB plus one or two quick release clamps. This idea is more suitable for quick and easy attachment on or detachment of the LLSB from a lens, can accommodate zoom telephotos, while the LLSB can be used with different lenses.

A prerequisite for this solution is that the lens is already equipped with an Arca Swiss® compatible lens plate.

This idea is also based on the Hejnar Photo G13-80 rail and the Hejnar Photo LLS bracket as previously described, with the addition of the Hejnar Photo F69 captive quick release clamp and the F62 quick release clamp. This package should contain a total of four 1/4"-20 captive screws and two Allen hex keys, one for the 1/4" screws and one for the M3 stop screws under the rail respectively.

Having also in mind telephoto lenses with a short collar foot, I have picked the Hejnar photo F69 captive QR clamp due to its ability to be screwed on the G13-80 front hole by either one of its captive slots, which will keep it flash with the rail's surface and allow the LLSB reach the lowest possible position.

Put the rail and the clamp on a flat surface and tighten the captive 1/4"-20 screw. In this way the clamp will be aligned flash to the rail and secured in place.

Ready!

Next comes the attachment of the F62 QR clamp. Two 1/4"-20 screws should be inserted in the G13-80 rail's captive slot...

...in order to be screwed in the clamp's 1/4"-20 threaded holes, beside the center hole.

In this way the clamp is aligned parallel to the rail and secured in place. The exact position on the rail is a matter of choice and compliance with the lens or lenses to be used.

This time the LLSB is simply inserted in the front clamp by its dovetail and clamped at the lowest position, until the lens is mounted so as to adjust the correct height accordingly.

This more versatile LLSB weighs 289gr (0.64lb) and as package, according to my estimates, would cost around US $ 189.00 plus shipping.

In this case it is a matter of preference if you mount the LLSB on the Arca Swiss® compatible head first and then the camera/lens combination on top of the LSSB clamp by the lens foot dovetail plate, or if you mount the lens/camera first on the LLSB and then the whole pack on the head.

One thing that should be taken care of, is the head clamp and the LLSB rail clamp knobs be facing at opposite sides, so there is no interference between each other. After adjusting and balancing the whole setup, care should also be taken so both quick release clamps be closed securely.

Last but not least the LLSB must be adjusted to contact firmly and support the front part of the lens and then the regulating clamp be tightened.
